Our Purpose

The Preschool's purpose is to provide a Preschool where God is recognized as Creator, a loving Father, Savior and Enabler. A preschool environment and program is provided in which children, three to five years of age, are encouraged to develop physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Parents are encouraged to become involved with the development of their children within the preschool program.

Our Staff

The staff at First Presbyterian Preschool is composed of a teacher and teaching assistant for each class of sixteen children. They are a loving, caring group experienced in preschool education who continue to develop their expertise through staff development activities throughout the year.

Our Philosophy

The preschool is dedicated to the Glory of God. First Presbyterian Church established the preschool because of the church's desire to minister to the larger Smithfield community. First Presbyterian Preschool is designed as a place where a child can develop a positive self-image in a Christian atmosphere. It attempts to serve the best interests of each child's learning and growth processes, as well as to involve and support each family.

Our Information

Our preschool classes are separated into two age groups.

For children 4 and up, we have two class options: 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) or 5 days a week (Monday - Friday).

For children who are 3 by December 31st of the school year, we also have two class options: Older 3 year olds attend on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Younger 3 year olds attend on Tuesday and Thursday.

We do ask that your child is fully potty trained. This allows for more time for play and instruction during our school day.

Our day runs from 9am - 11:45am. Our drop-off begins in the morning at 8:50 when the teacher on duty comes to the door. We also have an early-bird program that begins at 8am.

We have a music program and visit the library for story time once a week. The children sing in two programs during the school year - a christmas program and an end of the year program.

We welcome you and your child to visit our preschool on any school day. Wednesdays may not be the best day as that is the day we usually walk to the library to visit Mrs. Elaine.

Registration is held the first two weeks in March.

We follow Johnston County's school calendar with the exception of the beginning date and ending date of our school year. We typically begin the week after Labor Day and end towards end of May. School calendars are given out when you meet your teacher at the beginning of school.
